Info and Resources

Year-round training begins on May 1 and ends April 31st, and it is as simple as that. Proper planned preparation for winter competition needs the physical capacities built slowly through the summer.

AD provides training instruction specific to age and growth stage. Younger athletes may be involved with a wide range of sports and activities - competition is strictly fun because they need to learn competition. Athletes 13-15 begin sport-specific training and start learning how to race, while Junior and Senior-age athletes’ training is entirely sport-specific and the competitive challenges are progressively raised to higher performance standards.

Information

Athletes interested in joining with Athletic Directions need to submit a Registration 07-08.pdf.

The AD Manual 2006 - 07 outlines the Team standards for behaviour, dress, and equipment, and for Team organization and scheduling at competitions, including wax testing and waxing services.

Before submitting an application, please read about Athletic Directions and its approaches to sport and fitness - especially about the need to commit (see Information ).

Athletes and, for younger athletes, their parents should contact either Pavol or Petr directly for further information.

Training Plans and Schedules

The annual schedule for training and competition is outlined (Training plans 2007-2008.pdf), with periodization cycles of 4 weeks (Periodization training 2007-08.pdf). Athletes are expected to follow the training plan year-round, to record their training hours and activities in a Training Diary, and to make regular reports to the coach to allow for ongoing modification to the training plan. Train smart without injury, and that means: do not be a slave to a fixed plan.

Training includes four Summer Training Camps and one on-snow, preseason training camp at Foret Montmorency (see schedule, below). The Training Camps are intended for any athlete, especially younger athletes, who would like to learn more about training methods and techniques and personal fitness levels, as well as for established athletes who use the Camp environment to accommodate the high-volume demands at the end of each four-week cycle.

The Order Sheet identifies equipment needs. It is used by Pavol and by Petr to ensure the right equipment, in the correct size is available for each athlete when they need it, and it is submitted prior to each ski season.

Personal Fitness
The training schedule for personal fitness is tailored to accommodate individual needs and lifestyle constraints. Athletic Directions emphasizes simple approaches that work (see Information), and many of its training sessions are scheduled out-of-doors in the Gatineau Park (see Weekly Training Sched 2006-07).

Equipment needs for Personal Fitness training (see List) are minimal, including proper training shoes, heart rate monitors, and nordic walking poles.  It is recommended that you receive advice on how to select the proper equipment PRIOR to making the recommended purchases. Optional additions may include exercise mats and balancing balls.
